Do you think if Canada wanted to they could have as much Nukes as the US? And could be as big of a superpower as the US?

Canada puts too much money into the health care system and other social programmes - unlike the nuke-stacked countries who are only interested in 'getting-off' their next missile.

Canadians should be proud that their tax money goes to improving the world and not becoming a danger and detriment.

Canada only has one-tenth the population of the U.S. (30 million vs. 300 million), so the population just isn't there to supply soldiers for a military that would dominate the world. The political will isn't there either, given the huge percentage of the economy that is required to run a world superpower. At one time during the Cold War, Canada consulted with the U.S. about building their own nukes (they certainly have the brain power to do so), but both sides agreed to let the U.S. handle the big stuff and protect all of North America in case Russia got nasty.

Canada doesn't need to be a super power. It's super just like it is!

America isn't a super power anymore it is just a bully. Economically the country is collapsing and will soon be replaced by China or The European Union.

With regards to Canada there is now way they would become a super power. First off Canada has a very small population and as a result a small army. Without conscription holding superpower status is not viable.

Secondly with regards to nuclear weapons, Canada is party to several treaties (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, North Atlantic Treaty) to name a few, this is also exclusive of other human right treaties and treaties and protocols referring to weapons of mass destruction in general. This ultimately prevents the production and use of such weapons.

Nice, quiet Canada!!

Funny how we are the butt of many jokes, blamed for power outages and bad meat and lumber issues...

At the end of the day, we supply aid, trees, oil, water, electricity, meat, grain and OUR CITIZENS HAVE HEALTH CARE.. i could go on..! We already are a superpower, we dont need Nukes like the US to prove we're right where we need to be. Some countries are a little too big for their britches, and when the chips are down.. we'll be watching hockey, BBQ'ing steak, and drinking beer, happy as can be.

Yes, gentle Canada, the whipping boy of the US. It's it funny how we get people like this asking paranoid questions like this of us. Americans don't seem to get that our actions speak louder than words:

1) Who helped 10 Americans escape then their embassy was taken over by Iranians, oh, Canadians.

2) Who helped the Americans establish an array of radar systems to protect them from Russian bombers, oh, Canadians.

3) Who during 9/11 helped land all planes heading into the States, oh yeah, Canadians.

4) Who also put up all the Americans in their own homes during that time, oh yeah those darn Canadians again.

5) Who sent fire and rescue personelle to New York to help with the evacuation and clean up, dammit it's those Canadians again.

6) When the big power outtage happened in Ohio, New York and Ontario, who got blamed, Canada, who was really wrong, Ohio, and who channelled electricity quickly to restore New York, oh hell it was Canadians from Hydro Quebec.

Why can't you guys just stop with the stupid paranoid questions and the stupid trade disputes and your stupid accusations. Our actions speak loudly, we help you, we don't ask for anything in return. Leave us alone and let us be who we are. Otherwise the next time you need help we won't be around because we've been absorbed, assimulated, disappeared.

We don`t have the will, or the scale, or the need for that kind of power. We are firmly ensconced in the American sphere of influence. However, our economy and population are about one tenth the size of the American equivalents. Also, Canadian governments don`t like rocking the boat, and are considered quite gentle compared to other governments. So, really, your question is quite absurd

No. They have a relatively small population that is divided by language and cultures. They also tax their citizens "enough" to pay for their socialist health care system...
These strifes also do not entice foreign investment (a key factor when becoming a super-power...ask China...)

Why on earth would they want to do that?

Too bad Bush went AWOL before he found out from a real veteran what the term "drawing fire" means.

Most Canadians are smart enough to know that drawing fire on your position just isn't smart.
