so going back WAY in time... what was the first traded 'product or thing' amoung people. and to offer a better answer, if you can; what IS the oldest product that was traded and still traded or sold today? Think people - please, I can seem to find the CORRECT or best answer. back when humans lived in caves? do we have proof of this? ugh- not sure how far back to look - wood/stones, women((no-offense) oldest profession, right?))... well, any help is greatly appreciated.

Salt was likely the first traded commodity. We take it for granted today, but at one time inland communities depended on coastal communities for their salt supply. Without salt, they couldn't preserve food.

All historians can do is look for evidence. Probably there is no evidence for what you want. The oldest trade goods for which there is evidence are stone tools. Many sources of good flint or obsidion have unique patters of trace materials, so the location of the source of the stone can be compared to where the stone tool was found. Some stone tools ended up hundreds of miles from their source, indicating that trade occured across large areas many thousands of years ago.

Or possibly bottle caps, we traded them when I was a kid.

The first "standing human" traded food, weapon(tools) and woman the very basic of their time.
