I plan on moving and staying with my brother BUT my mother is within driving distance and I'm a bit worried about her bothering and harassing me. Do I have to wait for something to happen or can I get a restraining order on her behavior she's shown int he past. I'm 19 and she threatens to do things through e-mail and phone, although she's never fulfilled them, I'm a bit paranoid now. Please help!

I am so sorry.
I am sure that you can get a restraining order if she has threatened you.
I had a mother from hell, but never thought about a restraining order, I would have loved to have seen her butt in jail.
Good luck and may GOD bless you in many ways to make up for your mother.

Yes, you can get a restraining order against your mother. Contact your local police department and ask for a victim's advocate. The advocate will help you through the whole process, and may go to the courthouse with you to attend the hearing and fill out paperwork.

Been there done that altho I am almost 50,but my mother was every mans worst nightmare and still is to this day.I love my mother but I sure as hell dont like her lol.Yes you need an attorney to obtain a restraining order, you do not have to wait for her actions again to do something. My thoughts and prayers are with you as I have been down that road, seems the simple things in life are the hardest to obtain,a peaceful and happy life.Good luck.

Well what I do know for sure is that you have to have a lawyer to get a restraining order. That much I do know for a fact! So get a lawyer. If you don't believe me, call your local county magistrate and he will tell you what to do.

Call your local courthouse. They can tell you what paperwork you need to file and what the charges would be. If she has made legitimate threats, keeps records so you can take them to court with you.
