I was about 30 years old when I learned my most important lesson - that I did not have the ability to change anyone but myself. I learned that I cannot take responsibility for the actions of others - I can only be responsible for my own actions, thoughts, & attitudes. It was a very humbling experience.

My mother taught me never to rely on anyone (she meant men) at a very early age. I think I was 8 when I announced I wasn't going to marry a Dr. I'd rather be one.
