OK, So I had this same problem. If you start it within the first 24 hours of starting your period it is effective right then! Otherwise you need to wait a FULL 7 days before it is active. Trust me. I went to over 110 websites and all of them said this. You can google Birth Control and like thousands of them will come up and 99% of them say this! Good Luck!

2 cycles, 60 days. The estrogen will mess with your ovulation this is why spotting is common. Use a back up birth control system in the mean time.
You also need to take the pills at the same time each day, not 7 am one day and 11 pm the next. This is how women "accidentally" get pregnant on the Pill.

For the first two weeks you shoulld definately use other contraceptives with your birth control. Condums should always be used with it if you or your partner may be having sex with others, to prevent stds.

lvsgal86 is correct, I worked in an OB/GYNE office for 4.5 years. Also, the pills I take, Yasmin, say the same thing in their instructions
