America's superpower status is based on industrialization/ banking/ globalization, not just military might. Russia is and always will be a huge land mass with great natural resources. Example: oil reserves and sustaining agriculture. Its military is still notable. At the rate the US is going, being today's only superpower is shaky. Look at China to take on the role of "superpower" based on their huge share of US monetary notes as well as taking on a large role in international banking.

Yea...if you define superpower as a critical amount of influence in world affairs definitely...15 years time...
they have massive oil reserves that Europe will desperately need, and the kremlin is keeping a tight leash on its resources--this creates a consolidation of power, and thus, power over Europe.
Russia also has one of the most militarized armies in that hemisphere, it is the second nation on the planet with most nuclear weapons, and its economy is churning healthily and growing, now with its open borders and free trade.
Its technology is growing due to the largely educated populace from the communist era.
Furthermore, Russia has a very large population and is more advanced than China technologically..Free trade and the internet have also allowed the Russian populace to become more market-oriented. Creating a mind-set similar to the one in Europe, except in unstable areas like Georgia...Russians are already viewed largely on par with Europeans and are traveling to places such as America more often...indicating a versatile and healthy populace.
It won't be as powerful as China or the US....but it will defenitely be another superpower---maybe even challenging the US in more than one area in years to come..
Furthermore, Russia is closer with China than the USA, not only in relations, but trade-wise and geographically, meaning that it offers a very significant counterpoint to US influence---which has already presented itself:
Russia has more influence on Europe than the USA, and China has greater influence in the asian area than the USA---China used submaries to tailgate a US ship, with them not seeing them on radar...only to resurface infront of them---this was a statement according to political analysts: don't even think of going to taiwan if we decide to do something, or to japan...because we will sink your ships....
so yea, Russia will become a super-power, especially due to its joint-efforts with China.

Russia is having enough problems coping with economic instability, corruption and organized crime among other things, The fall of communism left its social safety net in shambles and Russia can`t even locate some of its own nuclear warheads. Not any time soon...
