Ok, I haven't read any of the books so I was wondering... in the Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring movie (Peter Jackson version) what happens to Gandalf after he fights the Balrog in the cave/or mines of Moria. I know he briefly talks about it in The Two Towers but I don't really understand what happened according to the book. Did he die and then reincarnate as the white wizard? In fact what is the white wizard? I'd like to get this clarified.

Gandalf was "sent back" from the Halls of Mandos, resurrected by Eru and returning as a more imposing figure, Gandalf the White. After being found by Gwaihir, he was healed of his injuries and reclothed in white robes by Galadriel in Lórien, though he retained his grey cloak for a while. He then travelled to head off the Three Walkers in Fangorn Forest, there he encountered Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas who were tracking the Fellowship members (and Frodo's cousins) Merry and Pippin.

well you see gandalf deafeated the balrog and he wasnt suposed to becouse the balrog was to powerful for even a white wizard... now since he defeated the balrog he was as you might say "Level Uped" he advanced to the "White wizard" level and he was about to die but that one elf saved him with elf magic... thats the best i can do to explain it

His body was destroyed since the Balrogs and he were of same "people"...He was essentially an angel...So when his spirit made it back to Aman...They sent him back to Middle-Earth in a new body since "his work was unfinished."
