This Stereotype is kind of true, but messed up at the same time.

It's racism. This stereotype also exists in the Latino television companies. Televisa SA is famous for casting all Caucasian people for the important roles while anyone with brown skin is either a maid, or a witchdoctor. I really haven't seen any Russians cast as maids. On The Sorprano's there was this one lady who was a CNA and was involved with the Russian mafia, but that's it.

Because russian and latino women will accept very low salary in order to leave their country of origin.

After your nasty e-mail:
Noone said that ALL latino women have it bad. Nobody said that ALL latino women choose to be maids for poor pay. I was answering your question as of why there is such stereotype. Perhaps, I answered too consicely for you to understand.

Here is a longer answer for you: This stereotype is formed because of many examples from real life. I've never seen a Japanese maid serving in an average American household ever in my life (doesn't mean they don't exist) Hoever, I personally know enough people who came to the US from Eastern Europe on an invitation to work as maids. After talking to them, I realize that they live on conditions that American girls wouldn't find to be interesting employment opportunity. However, these girls find that this is far better option for them than home. This is why they continue to stay and work as maids. The stereotype is there because there are many instances of this phenomenon.

Many Russian and Latino women don't work as maids. Some do. Some who work as maids are treated very nicely. Maid can be a normal respectable profession. FYI.

This is not stereotyping. It happens to be a reflection of what one usually see in real life, so when a part of a maid is needed on a show, they cast people whom one would normally see working in those roles. It might not look right to you but it happens to be very much a reality.
