The bad advice on Yahoo! Answers is just shocking sometimes.

100.8 is NOT a high fever. (It's barely over the defining limit of "fever" for daycare--100.4.)

For a child over 6 months, our pediatrician tells us not to even treat a fever under 102 unless the child is very uncomfortable.

Keep her hydrated, and dress her in a few light layers so you can strip her down when she's hot, and dress her back up if she seems chilled.

If she does seem uncomfortable, give her Tylenol. A warm bath (not cool, not cold--you don't want to induce shivering) where you wet your baby's upper body and head can also help reduce a fever.

Tylenol/Motrin will not bring a temperature down to normal unless the fever was very low grade to begin with. But you should start to see some effect in half an hour or so.[[

For a higher fever, and with your pediatrician's permission, you can alternate Tylenol and Motrin. You can even give both together as an initial dose. So, say, both at 12. Tylenol at 3. Motrin at 6. Tylenol at 9. Etc.

Your pediatrician will want to hear from you if a) your baby has a fever of unknown origin higher than 102 that continues for 24 hours; or b) if your baby has a temperature higher than 104-5.

If the temperature gets to 105 and you cannot control it through Tylenol/Motrin, bathing, clothing choices, etc., then you should call the on-call pediatrician, who MAY tell you to go to the ER.

But high fevers in small children are very, very common, and even a fever as high as 106 is not dangerous.

Most high temperatures are caused by run-of-the-mill viruses, so there's not much a pediatrician can do for your child except make her more comfortable.

A fever that climbs very high very fast may cause a febrile seizure. While scary, these are not medically significant, and do NOT require a trip to the ER. (Although if it's a first seizure, you will want to call the on-call pediatrician and get his or her advice on this.)

My oldest daughter (now 3) spikes fevers at the drop of a hat and suffers from febrile seizures. We were told that, now that we know she has them--she's had 2--we should start Motrin at the first sign of fever. And we don't need to bring her to the ER unless her temp is over 105 and cannot be controlled, or she has a seizure that either lasts longer than 3 minutes or leaves her "altered" when the seizing stops.

When she was younger, we were to call the on-call pediatrician if her temp got higher than 104 and was unresponsive to home remedies.

Of course, you don't mention if your child has any other symptoms.

High fever (which, again, your daughter does NOT have) CAN be a sign of meningitis. So google it, and if your daughter seems to have any of those symptoms (particularly neck pain or stiffness), then throw all my previous advice out the window and go to the ER.

Good luck.

A fever alone isn't an emergency. How is she acting? Does she seem sick? How she's acting is a much better indication of how "sick" she might be. Try some Tylenol or ibuprofen, tepid bath, light clothing, cool fluids to drink (Popsicles ...) to reduce the fever and don't rush to the ER unless she's having an emergency (can't breath, dehydrated, seizures, lethargy ...). Good luck, hope she's better soon.

Use infant tylenol- every 4 hrs to try to get it down- a warm bath too... keep checking it, and by tomorrow if it hasn't gone down, or goes up to 102, or 103, take her to the doctors. 100.8 isn't too bad... but just keep an eye on it. the tylenol should help bring it down though.

that isn't high at all. Also is thie oral, rectal, or under her arm?

When babys teeth they can fever up to 101 and you don't need to worry about it.

103 or 014 Before it gets that high put baby in a mild temperature bath to help lower the temperature. Also check with your doctor about dosage of tylanol

has it been controlled with tylenol? have you given tylenol at all today and did her temp go down? do not give ibuprofen (motrin) at all. I would take her now, pack up and go, most likely you'll be staying over night.

do not delay especially when babies or toddlers have fever like your child. it could lead to brain damage. if you are measuring by thermometer, ur child temperature must not exceed 37.8 degrees, if ur child temperature goes above 37.8 degrees, take ur child to KK Children and Women's Emergency clinic for children, the dotors there will help ur child.

I think you should call your health care agent...usually that isn't considered high...the nurse told me to give my son a cool bathe and give him children's Tylenol. good luck.
