Virtually all white tigers are in captivity where they recieve excellent care. I have traveled over the range of several species and have never seen one in the wild. All of the species of tigers are in endangered, and the Sumatran is perhaps the most critical. In China, the Siberian Tiger population may have grown a little and the Vietnamese species (Corbrett's) is holding on. The Bengal is protected pretty well in India. In Burma (Myanmar) we saw only a few as we also saw few in Northern Thailand. The only way to protect them is either to put them on a well controled sanctuary or in captivity.
