10million a year too much for Matsuzaka
AJ Burnett got 5 years 55 million, and is a CAREER LOSING pitcher.
If you compare talent, number of pitchers, quality pitchers, and AJ Burnett, Matsuzaka should get at least 100million a year.
Boras wants a deal as much as the Sox do. It effects him too if he can't sign. The number of teams that do not like Boras is growing, and they do not go after FA that are represented by Boras.
Boras cannot afford to alieniate a team like the Red Sox, who have money to spend. It will effect the Sox going after J.D Drew, a Boras client and that could hurt Drew. And if Matsuzaka is signed (he wants to play in the majors) it makes teams like the Yankees, and Angels (Al teams) more interested in Zito (Boras) and helps Boras land Zito a better deal
You bet a deal will get done. The Sox know they are not going to get Matsuzaka cheap, Boras knows he cannot get a blank check, 3-4 years, 10-13million. Boras was a short contract, that way Matsuzaka can have another go in a few years, that time as a FA and really cash in aswell, hes only 26.

Boras has to get a deal done, or he worked for nothing. This is not like his usual situation where he can bring a player like Johnny Damon to the highest bidder. If there is no deal, the money goes back to the Sox. The Red Sox will have an enviable situation with Schilling, Beckett, Matsusaka, Lester, Papelbon, Wakefield, Snyder, Tavares, DelCarmen, Hanson, Timlin and a closer to be acquired by free agency or trade. That is a solid pitching staff. The core of their hitting, Ramirez and Ortiz, stays intact. They have question marks, but with Pena, Lowell, Youkilis, Varitek, they have a solid team. Guaranteed World Series? Of course not, but they should be competitive in the AL East, depending on who they get for a closer.

51.1 million just to talk - that's crazy but we have been crazy over the years. They're saying that Bora's is talking in the 60 million range for a contact. You thought A-rod's deal was nuts - eh?
I'd like the Yanks to go after Zito and Nomar. You can never have enough left hand pitching in the Bronx. Nomar gives us a utility player that can hit. Thay also need a backup catcher as Fasano couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag.

I don't think they will reach a deal. If they don't, they won't have to pay the $51 million. But if they do sign him, he is apparently asking for $34 million for 3 years. That is a total of about $85 million for 3 years service???!!!!!! The Red Sox couldn't pay Johnny Damon an extra $3 million a year, but you can shell out $28 million a year for 3 years??? That makes no sense, especially since they have no middle relief.

I think as they once used sausages in the bun called dachshund sausages and there was an early report in a newspaper that drew a dog barking in a bun and the name stuck.
