Cast away with Tom Hanks!

I think I loved this movie because I would love to end up all by my self on an isolated island.

I absolutely LOVE The English Patient and I can't exactly say why. I do not believe in infidelity but there seems to be such a pure love, so much pure love, between Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas, as well as between Juliette Binoche and the character Kip. I am so moved by the sacrifice and devotion they make in different ways.

I also love Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for some of the same reasons - a powerful story of love and sacrifice. We are all familiar with the love that grabs greedily but how about the love that can let go? An absolute beauty of a movie.

I also absolutely love the movie Frida. I guess one thing these have in common is strong, intelligent, powerful women who dare to love and live. The music is outstanding and Salma Hayek's performance is mesmerizing.

Finally, a different mood entirely, the movie A World Apart with Barbara Hershey, about apartheid. Again, in this movie, she is torn between her convictions and the impact of these on her daughter, and she makes courageous choices that may tear your heart out.

If anyone checks out these movies, I hope you enjoy them!

Carrie. (also part 2 and the remake) It has a poweful impact on me because of how they tackle the theme of social rejection. With the foundation being reality they build on it by adding the fantasy which reinforces the emotional impact. I don't think it only applies to people in high school. It's very easily relatable to anyone who is treated cruelly for being different and the intolerance of others. "In its everyday form, intolerance is an attitude expressed through angry argumentation, looking down at people because of their characteristics or viewpoints, negatively portraying something due to one's own prejudice, etc."-Wikipedia It's three dimensional: Painful, tragic and cathartic all at the same time. It's ironic the message falls on deaf ears. Something that further increases the movies effect. And lastly the release provided by seeing the main character get her revenge in a dramatic, extraordinary way that visually symbolizes the impalpable.

Midnight Cowboy.... Starring Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight.

When Jon Voight starts his role, he plays a naieve Cowboy that thinks life is wonderful in the big city with big money, but later finds out he has just the all time street broke and swindled out of money before he begins to pick up the trick on how to Hustle to stay alive and eat. He begets a friend (Dustin Hoffman) who plays Ricko in the movie and they become good friends and Ricko teaches Cowboy how to do it right in the streets and survive, but in the end Ricko is dying from emphasyma and must get to Florida and Cowboy gets him there, but he dies on the Bus before making it to Miami and that is the saddest end of any movie I have ever seen.

Muriel's Wedding. Toni Collette is great as Muriel who grows from an ugly duckling into a swan (figuratively). I like the way she overcomes her difficult childhood complete with dysfunctional family, and gains self-esteem and autonomy.

Hotel Rwanda. It is absolutely shocking what goes on in other countries. When I see the pain and suffering, cruelty and torture of people, it sickens and saddens my heart.
