I grew up on Apples and Ataris and arcades at the mall, and those are some of my happiest childhood memories. I still have my 2600, although I haven't plugged it in for almost 20 years. My Apple II+, alas, is long gone. Never had a Commodore, but my brother did. I have old favorites (or should I say "old friends") on all those platforms.
Berzerk was and still is my favorite arcade game. I actually bought an original Berzerk machine several years ago, and still play it regularly. Discs of Tron would be a distant second.
Probably my favorite of the Atari 2600 games I had was the home version of Super Cobra. A lot of arcade conversions stunk on the 2600, but this wasn't one of them. Another 2600 gem that came out *very* late in the platform's life was Solaris. Great game. One of my friends had it, and we never got tired of playing.
Castle Wolfenstein, Koronis Rift, Karateka, Ape Escape, Oregon Trail, and Rescue on Fractalus were some of my favorites for the Apple, and I eventually corrupted the disks for several of those by playing them so often (the curse of having no hard drive). Two games that I especially remember fondly: "Ultimate Wumpus 2," which was an update of the classic "Hunt the Wumpus" with up to 8 players, a much bigger cavern, multiple Wumpuses, and more ways to die! And Budge's "Pinball Construction Set," which at the time was one of the coolest game concepts ever. I used to spend hours trying to recreate the layouts of real machines like El Dorado, 8-Ball Deluxe, and Pin-Bot (even though you couldn't do ramps and split-levels, I still tried to make the equivalents).
Finally, there is one game I will forever associate with the Commodore 64 - Legacy of the Ancients. One of the best and most underrated RPGs of the 80s. Good graphics, great sound effects, and a long, difficult quest that more than gave you your money's worth. My brother had it, and every time I visited I couldn't wait to play it again!

It's so strange sometimes, when playing PS2 with one of my kids ... to think of how far video games have come! My childhood was Coleco, Atari and commadore 64, lol.
Difficult to remember all the games I played back then, but I do miss the old traditional pong, and I loved galaxian. And Qubert, but god knows what console that was .. my memory has it's limits over time, lol.
It's interesting to be living in this day and age, where technology is flying .... since we've seen the changes in graphics and dimension between coleco, standard arcade .. up to what we have available now with sony and xbox .... can you imagine the future of gaming .... the virtual reality concepts and what gaming will be like in say, 15 years?

Yes I still play old games. I still play river raid from time to time. I have pacman on my cell phone. Those old text games like Zork etc I don't play anymore.
What gaming stores do you go into? There's lots more than sports! Give Grand theft auto a whirl, tomb raider series. Get your hands on a good RPG like Morrowind etc

I love old games. I still have my Apple IIgs, and play 'ZORK: Zero' and 'Leather Goddesses of Phobos' every now and again. I also have an old Atari with a full stock of games.
'Leather Goddesses' is one of my favorite games of all time. It is very quirky and reminds me of Douglas Adams' "The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I think I'll start up another game of 'Leather Goddesses'--I'm going to see if there's another "path" on Venus that I haven't discovered yet.

I remember Zork and used to love it. Games like that had a little more thought to them. Sure you solve puzzles today but it isn't the same.

I am not familiar with these games. I have an Atari 2600 and a Colecovision. I am better at their games than modern games. I like Pitfall, Dig Dug and Ms. Pacman.
