I've recently moved to a new city and I am a full time grad student. I'm new to the area and I'm a little bit lonely and bored, and so I'm having trouble focusing on school. What are some ideas of hobbys or activities I could do to make friends? I'm not athletic so nothing like a gym or dance classes or athletic clubs please, and I don't want to get a part time job either.
Also, once I've figured ideas for activities, how do you make friends in a class? I've never had problems with it before, but I'm finding the more time I spend by myself, the more reserved I'm becoming. It feels like I've forgotten how to make friends. I've been in school classes for over two months and don't have one friend that I hang out with yet...
Thank you for your help, I've never had to deal with a situation like this before and I don't like that I'm becoming a recluse! It needs to stop!

A lot of it depends on your interests. If you are into the arts then you might enjoy either art classes or bead making or even the big one now-a-days scrapbooking. I'm certain that you will meet a lot of people around your own age there and you'll have something in common right of the bat, so will be easy to start conversations etc. Best of luck and I hope this is the type of response you were looking for.

What ever situation you are in is ok! Take things as it comes, you have posted this question itself shows you are becoming aware of the fact that you are not socializing. This is the beginning of change. Well done. Find out what you are interested in first. It could be music, reading, volunteering is an excellent way to make friends, because like minded people take up a particular volunteerning. It is surely a great way to make friends. The wider interest you have the more friends you can make. Since winter is approaching, some thing indoor is the only option. How about something to do with christmas celebration? Or decoration. cooking can be a good pass time. any handicraft is a good option. Learn a new skill that you always wanted to do since childhood. Its is your choice.

The most ideal hobby for a person depends greatly on the persons interests. Mine is model railroading; I personally think it is ideal, but that is me. What fits the best for you is really up to you.
If you want to make acquaintances and friends, then the best thing to do is to go to where people are, of course. Where to go, again, is dependent upon your style. I was used to growing up with friends in a Baptist church, so when I went to college, I found new friends in the local Baptist Student Union and at the local church where they frequented.
Speaking of hobbies earlier: you might run into a person or persons sooner or later that like what you do!
When it all comes down to it, it simply takes a little courage within to take steps to be friendly to others -- soon, you will find them, just don't rush it.
Good luck!

Just open up to ppl who you think you share the same interest with. As for hobbies, are you an artistic person, try and take up artistic hobbies, painting, drawing, writing, photography, music. Even appreciating music is a hobby. Most non athletic people are quite artsy. so just look around, try and just make small talk sooner or later you will make friends.

after I went on my each and each and every year misson vacation each and each and every of the youngsters (a lengthy time period 11-19) would get a white board and markers out each and every nighttime. we would not sleep all nighttime only drawing off of each and every others drawings. i'd draw an user-friendly stck individual and someone would draw some element, someone els would draw a back round even as someone would positioned some thing contained in the drawings hand. Sorry i'm being so vauge, not fairly making plans out what i'm writing. only purchase a white board and some markers and enable her rip away on the board.
