Dog Fleas and Christmas on the Side
by: Rory Ian Bualan

Tail wiggles as lots of jinggle bells play,
waggles as smelly feet pass rotten rags;
Shiny nose stirs as crispy lights go scream,
expands, contracts as Mr. spits a nag.

Plastic covered seats, I love to lie on -
when found at midcreep, a blow to the fur,
sends my poor spirit away to the dawn -
where I lay outside the welcoming door.

Tail wiggles as young candles light the night,
waggles as cans open for a cold feast;
Shiny nose stirs to illustrate a fright,
wrinkles at a feline, an angry beast.

Time to retire and lie where the cold dwells,
not on soft, lovely plastic covered seats
but on a dreamy corner where walls meet
and tiny friends take on a big banquet.

The dog is happy and wagging his tail because of the holiday spirit and company arriving.

He loves to lie on the plastic covered seats but when he's caught even attempting to get up on the furniture, he is whacked and put outside.

He gets excited when he sees lights and is given a can of food but he suddenly realizes they aren't letting him back in and he tries to show his owner that he is scared outside. He is also wondering why the mean cat gets to stay inside but not him.

He gives up realizing he has to stay and sleep outside in the cold in a corner while the fleas have a feast on his blood.

This poem is so unhappy. I feel there is a deeper which means however I would be improper. The poem is approximately a puppy that's left external uncared for on Christmas Day most effective to feel approximately celebrating the vacation. I feel the poem is rather approximately the ones deserted for the duration of the vacations, or kids which are left with most effective the desires of being with household.

I dont think it is happy. I think the dog is being neglected and ignored. It talks about a blow to the fur when it gets on the plastic covered seats, he is laying outside the door and he goes to sleep in a corner, not on the soft seats..

Wow. I think it's actually a really sad poem. I got a chill on my back and a sadness in my soul. Sounds like a poor, neglected beaten dog. Unfortunately, a lot of adults felt like that as children..makes you think. All good poetry makes you think.

This is a nice poem but very sad. Did you write it? I can really
picture the poor old ragged dog, alone on Christmas.
It is very descriptive and colorful, even if those colors are shades of grey.
