Well, as the others said, the championships are the things that matter. If u look at the Heat right now they wouldn't be called a dynasty. Nor the Pistons. It's because dynasties are the teams that have prolonged dominance and success. The most recent were the early 2000-2003 lakers that won 3 championships in a row, and were the most dominant team of that time. I think if u have a team that has that type of dominance and success, it would be considered a dynasty. So the requirements that they should have are 3 championships or more, and be one of the most dominant in the league.

In my opinion, a dynasty entails being able to dominate your opponents year-after-year. The Boston Celtics string of 8 straight championships through the 60's and 70's, the Chicago Bulls 6 championships (two three-peats (91'-93' & 96'-98') in the 90's, and the Los Angeles Lakers 5 championships (including a back-to-back (87'-88')) in the 80's are good examples of basketball dynasty's.

Hope this helps.

With free agency I feel dynasties are a thing of the past. Players control who they ultimately will play for so ownership really can't build actual dynasties anymore. There are also so many good players out there and good players entering the league every year that anyone can be a title contender.

I think 3 championships in 5 years would be a dynasty. It is all about the championships.

In the NBA today, there is no one dominating team and no one dominating contender for the championship. There are quite a few teams in the league capable of winning the championship. So right now, there is no dynasty.

However, to answer your question, I would say 3 titles in 5 years is a dynasty.

Its all about championships, 3peats continuing to compete for 10 years possibly winning 6-7 titles in a 10 year span is dynasty in my opinion.

At least 3 Championships in a row or 2 in a row with one two seasons away

It also depends.

Would you say the Lakers earlier this decade were?

If they would have beat the Pistons then it would have been a dynasty.

I say it was but other fans may say no.

I can tell you this much, the Celtics, Lakers and Bulls easilly have had dynasties.

A dynasty is a succession of rulers who belong to the same family for generations. A dynasty is also often called a "house", e.g. the House of Saud or House of Habsburg. The term is also used to describe the era during which that family reigned, as well as events, trends and artifacts of the period, e.g. "Ming dynasty vase". In such cases, often the "dynasty" is dropped but the name may be used adjectively, e.g. "Tudor style", "Ottoman expansion", "Romanoff decadence", etc.

Historians traditionally consider a state's history within a framework of successive dynasties, particularly with such nations as China, Ancient Egypt and the Persian Empire. Much of European political history was dominated, successively and together, by dynasties such as the Carolingians, the Capetians, the Bourbons, the Habsburgs, the Stuarts, the Hohenzollerns and the Romanovs. Until the nineteenth century, it was taken for granted that a legitimate function of a monarch was to aggrandize his dynasty, that is, to increase the territory, wealth and power of family members.

can't be a dynasty in anything until you reach 3 years, that's the way I figure it.....back to back championships are nice but 2 years isn't exactly anything remotely long-term.....

Auerbach won 8 NBA titles in a row......now THAT'S what I call a dynasty!!!!!
