You can play for any team except the national team if you are not a citizen of Australia.

To be in the national team, you need to be a citizen. ICC has changed the rules a bit. Earlier UAE had a team full of Indian and Pakistani expats and they were a good team - did well in the ICC championships.

According to the ICC rules, a player qualifies to play for a different country provided he is a citizen of that country for at least four years and has been staying at least 183 days of the year in that country. Or having that different country's passport, lived there and worked for local cricket association for a minimum of 100 days.

This is still a tricky issue - what right has the ICC to rule if a certain country's constitution allows someone to become a citizen. Representing your country in sport is a fundamental right as the right to vote. ICC simply cannot dictate on a country's constitution. Someone ought to take them to court and drain them off a few millions. And of course get the rules sorted out.

Quite a few West Indians have played State cricket. I think you'll be held back on National selection until you're a citizen. Are you any good? I'm sure they'd fast track your application if you're a champion.
