Yes - we need someone young & fresh to see it the way the majority of the nation do.

Why on earth would he do that? He's been waiting in the wings for almost sixty years now, and given that his grandmother lived to be over 100, and his mother is still going strong, there's a good chance he won't get to sit on the throne until he's well into his seventies. So why would he give up his place at the head of the line.
Further -- what do you have against William? If Charles abdicates in his favor, that means William never gets to have a life of his own. Charles won't take the throne until he's at least 75 and will likely only reign for ten or so years. That means William will be middle-aged by then, will have had a chance to marry and raise a family, and at that point, it will be plenty soon enough to tie him up with all the monarchial folderol. Give the kid break!

Should Charles abdicate; maybe. Will he; never
The question you ask may be moot:
The Queen is going to live a lot longer than her Mom. Her Mom died at something like 102. Prince Charles is going to be around 80 before the Queen dies and she may outlive him.
Remember, all Charles' problems are personal and have nothing to do with being King. Charles has been groomed to be King since his birth and he will make a fine King. The problem with Charles has always been his Father was too hard on him.

In my opinion Charles will not abdicate (concede the throne to the next in line) and nor will the Queen. Charles will be King in due course, as will William. By 'due course' I mean in a bloody long time. Her Majesty has a long way to go yet.
It must hurt Charles to hear the masses jabbering that theyd rather have his son as king over him due to his looks, youth and the fact he looks like his mother. Charles will be a great king, because he has experience and wisdom, something William cant possibly have for a good many years yet.

i'm gonna take 50/50 on this i can't decide - i will mention to the people saying william is young that elizabeth was probably younger when she took queenship and that charles would still be an elder statesmen as the queen mum was, i will also state that the royal family bring in far more revenue than they can possibly spend so it ends up in government coffers (that means it's pinched by the government), danny s who answered below me is obviously foriegn probably a yank of low intelligence or they would know the queen is the queen of the empire not england and there is no current king there is a prince regent....

No. Prince William is much too young to be king and needs lots of life experience and seasoning. Prince Charles has been groomed for this his entire life and it shouldn't be taken away from him just because he divorced and remarried a divorcee.

he can't, Charles would take to the throne as next in line of succession. This would happen automatically, He would have to abdicate in order that William be able to take to the throne. There is precedent with Edward VIII in the 1936 incrowned and abdicated. However I don't think that the Monarchy could withstand such an action by Charles.

Not if were to happen anytime soon. William is still too young and Charles has spent his whole life preparing to be King.

No. If Charles really wants to be king, then he can. It is really his right to take the throne after his mother dies. Like anyone else in the world, it is hard to lose someone you love even if you will be a king if they do.

No, why should he? He is the heir to the throne, and he has been groomed for this all of his life.
As for what he did with Diana & Camilla, look at King Henry VIII - SIX wives, including divorcing or beheading some of them, and breaking from the Catholic church.
