Me and my friend are considering starting a gay rights group at our highshool (I know that I need permision from the principal first, but lets just say he gave it to us) how would we do it? ('m only asking people who are already running one, ran one, are in one, or know a lot about it)What do you do in the them? Does it cost a lot of money to start one? How do you get people to know about it? Anything else I might need to know about?

Every school district is going to feel a different way about this. At my school this is how it would work... a teacher must sponcer it. The teacher will hold the meetings and keep things under control. You can announce your group on your announcements and put fliers up at school. A good place is water fountians, doors, and bulleton boards. A REALLY BAD place to place them are in the bathrooms. If they are there, they wont be there long. Soon they will be in the toilet. (That will happen for any group.) You can even run an ad in your school newspaper. If your newspaper wont run it, you can pay money for ad space and force them to put it in there. (Assuming you have a newspaper that has ad space.) Also, you need to make sure that there is enough of a gay/bi/straight who support gays to attend the meetings. Expect bad things to. When people walk by while a meetin is going on you will face a lot of discrimination. The teacher there can handle those things. Also many straight people who support gays will not attend the meetings because it most likely wont be the "popular" thing to do. It would be best if you went to a large school. Thats all I really know. If you have any questions, email me. You can click on my pro to get my email.

How easy or difficult this might be will depend in part on where you live. In the California suburbs, my son;s high school had a GLBT/Rainbow group as well as a Pagan/Wiccan alliance.
To those who think this is not what school is for, think again-- High school is hard enough, and even worse if you're a little different. Lots of school sponsored groups are not academic in nature. I think a support/advocacy/education effort dealing with gay rights is something that should be available.
I would suggest approaching a teacher (or more than one) you trust and who you believe would be supportive of your cause. If possible, the support of parents is good as well.
Good luck!

Hey
Contact the Gay Straight Alliance site and they will have all the details you need. I've linked below.
You might get some crap from school district, so prepare for that. And if you want to find more at your school who might want to help get it off the ground try going through MySpace search (just filter gay and bi in the search) you'd be surprised how many are there.
Good luck hope this helps

it isn't not conceivable to have a gay courting as a teenager, besides the undeniable fact that that is amazingly complicated. some people nonetheless have problems with gay people, and youthful people have a tendency to be very problematical on one yet another for any adjustments. I commend you for your outgoing personality, and your ability to not care about what people imagine, besides the undeniable fact that that is better to go away Jake on my own and enable him commence a courting even as or if he feels smooth with it. Your best wager is to stay a very good chum to him and save up your artwork contained in the gay rights crew. And please remind Jake that *each and every thing* is more convenient in college.
