I hate that, too. I'd guess it's because they're really afraid of who they truly are. I like the 'what you see is what you get' types, myself.

An image can only be portrayed so long, because it's not truly the person's self. An image is dishonest, and tells you a lot about the person who is portraying it. Very insecure, immature, SCARED, and dishonest. That would be a hard job to keep up 24/7, trying to be something your not. Can you imagine how unhappy that person is inside? How are they supposed to come clean with such a game? Bad thing about it, they really aren't fooling anyone, and are only hurting themselves!

most people do this until the "go out with the person" for a long period of a time until they feel secure to show their real self.

I guess they think they are fooling others into believing that
they are something that they aren't .
Low self esteem would be my guess .
