This was back in the days when if Thor lost his grip on his hammer for more than 60 seconds, he would revert to Dr. Don Blake and the hammer would revert to a cane. (1960's)

The illustration supposedly showed Thor trapped under a landslide, and unable to reach his hammer.

There was a bunch of beautiful women on the scene, being menaced by the villain while Thor was trapped and helpless. Naturally, they couldn't bring the hammer to Thor!

The girls said what was supposedly the biggest double-entendre of the Comics Code era: "We've got to help Thor get his rocks off before his mighty hammer shrivels back into a walking stick!"

Ten points to anybody who can cite the title (probably Thor), the issue number and (if it wasn't the cover) the page number.

Lisa raises an excellent point, one that I should have mentioned earlier.

It is suspicious that there should be a situation where the hammer CANNOT return to Thor's hand as it automatically should; and this was attributed to the fact that it was dropped or fell from his hand while he was stunned or unconscious.

Supposedly, if Thor reverted to Don Blake while still under the rubble, Blake would be crushed to death. Wonder what would happen to Thor then...?

But it still seems suspicious. If anybody knows in what year the issue Randy refers to (149) was printed, that would help to confirm or disprove this.

Wow, interesting stuff! Only the most avid comic book enthusiast may be able to give you the answer, but I saw one cover (Thor 149) where Thor was laying unconscious, partially covered by rubble after a battle with The Wrecker. The title says "When Falls a Hero".

Let's hope someone gives the right answer "before The Mighty Mjolnir shrivels back into a walking stick", LOL!

Additional info (Nov. 17, 2006)
Thor 149 was published February 1968. I dug this up in Grand Comics Database website, check out the link below. Great collection of covers, with some details.

cant help you with this, but i do know that the hammer automatically returns to thor's hand if he drops it, and once he had to throw it into space to have a fair fight with the hulk (hulk beat his A$$ by the way), but that was just temporary because the hammer eventually returned to his hand after the momentum of thor's throw wore off

most of the individuals i have common in genuine existence have quite tame names - I come from a verrrrry conservative city. I knew of someone who named their toddler 'Whisper secrets and techniques'. a lady got here into the video save - she had 5 center names (Grace Rose Ann faith) a chum had 2 cousins named Chris and Drew Peacock (no comic tale - nicely, their names were Christopher and Andrew, yet those were the nicknames they chosen). The worst, although, by far although replaced into my Chem instructor who named his toddler, examine this out, Kiera Tenisha Xena Warrior Princess Heather Elizabeth. Double-barreled very last call too. the youngster has Xena Warrior Princess as 3 of her center names - extremely. extremely? i imagine that is quite undesirable.
