I heard this word just today but I don't remember it. I *think* it starts with an "e" and ends with an "ism," might be wrong.

But the word has something to do with believing focusing like...only "now" but not everything else like the past/future. Or it could mean that you don't care about life and you're just living with it. Ahh! lol I know I'm dead wrong because I actually don't know the meaning... but it's something to do with the way Frederick Henry/Tenente acts in "A Farewell to Arms." Thanks!

wat_more_can_i_say: If you mean "or" instead of "nor," then you're just making everything even more difficult for me. What do you want me to do? Huh? Tell me. Sure, my question may be vague, but I'm not SO desperate in finding out the actual answer. At least what I described is a step closer (even if it wasn't the right definition, I'd know my mistakes and think harder differently) than not saying anything at all. Curiosity gets me, you know? Certainly there should be at least some way to find out what the word is, right? Thanks so much for your help. I know you tried.

Could it be "existentialism"?
That means that man is responsible for his own actions and can to a large extent, control his own destiny.
P.S. I am now 100% sure that existentialism is what you are looking for. Hemingway was known for his existentialist views
and debated the issue with Albert Camus.
I am including a link about existentialism.

When you care about spelling and grammer, that's existential. But aneurysm and spelled are wildly mis-spelled, I give up. I hope you get the existential meaning of this answer. Ernest Hemmingway would have.

I admire your grit, Purity, curiosity transends existential ideas. I expect you'll do well.

Yeah, existentialism sounds like what you're looking for. It's like recognizing that you have a limited amount of time to live and taking full advantage of it.
