I just got this board and I was wondering if it needs or should be waxed before use?

It is always a good idea to wax a board before you ride it. Yes, it is true that most boards come waxed from the factory and this is certainly true of Burton boards. However, factory waxes are hardly as good a hot wax done by hand.

Here is what I do with a new board. Get some inexpensive all-condition wax. Nothing too fancy as this process will waste a lot of it. Drip the wax onto your board generously and iron it into the board evenly. Now, before it cools take your scraper and scrap all that wax off. If you can, collect this wax and use it again. I Repeat these steps as many as six or seven times. This process of "hot scraping" will do two things. One, it helps remove any impurities from the base of your board and two, it squeezes the wax into the millions of pores in your base. Now, after this is done get a good quality wax that will match your riding conditions (a good ski or snowboard shop can help you make this selection) and wax you board normally with this wax right over the all-condition wax you already put in. Let this wax cool completely then scrap it off and buff the base normally with a cork and you're done.

If all this seems a bit daunting any good snowboard shop should be able to take care of you. Done right, you'll have the fastest board on the hill.

Enjoy
