As humans we think of ourselves as the end of the line in evolution. As such we feel that our lives as individuals must have some greater meaning. When we consider that we as a species comprise a given percentage of the biomass based on our consumption as top predator this is an easy trap to fall into. The true meaning of life should be considered from the perspective of the biomass itself. We as humans have been around as a numerical percentage of the biomass for a relatively short span of time. Especially considering the length of time the biomass itself has been present on this planet as a "consistent mass". We are nothing more then an expression of the biomass. Another permutation that it's created in it's own game of survival and expansion. For the question to be relevant it must be asked "What is the desired goal of the biomass"? In this context the answer is simplicity itself. The goal is to expand beyond the confines of the planetary biosphere. To achieve this goal it is necessary to create a permutation capable of designing the next stage of evolutionary consciousness and humans with their mechanical ingenuity seem well equipped to do so. If, in fact, they don't destroy themselves in the process. It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention. The biomass is counting on that. That's why we were created so virulent.

I agree with the theory of the logical positivists:

Expressed in language, the question is meaningless. This is because "meaning of x" is a term in life usually conveying something regarding the consequences of x, or the significance of x, or that which should be noted regarding x, etc. So when "life" is used as "x" in the term "meaning of x", the statement becomes recursive and therefore nonsensical.

In other words, things in a person's life can have meaning (importance), but a meaning of life itself, i.e., apart from those things, can't be discerned. In this context, a person's life is said to have meaning (significance to himself and others) in the form of the events throughout his life and the results of his life in terms of achievements, a legacy, family, etc. But to say that life itself has meaning is a misuse of language, since any note of significance or consequence is relevant only in life (to those living it), rendering the statement erroneous. Language can provide a meaningful answer only when it refers to a realm within the realm of life. But this is not possible when the question reaches beyond the realm in which language exists, violating the contextual limitations of language. Such a question is broken. And the answer to a broken question is an erroneous or irrelevant answer.

...got another question???

Tonight when you are about to sit down for dinner, I want you to click your heals three times and say "Show me the meaning of life" ....and then I want you to spin very slowly-eyes open- and survey the room as you do. My guess is that there will be a group of people looking at you with a bit of a grin and look of amazement...even your pets might seem amused.

If you are alone, please do this in your bathroom or in front of a mirror.I am sure you will have the same reaction of the people I describe.

Anyway...what you see that is your meaning. If it doesn't suit you, work on that.

I used to think it was to enjoy the sweetness and beauty of life, to feel awe at the complexity of the world around me, to relish exploring it, to enjoy questioning its possible origin, and to be amazed at the diversity in mankind, and the mysterious presence of music! But now ... I'm in mourning really - we've become a pestilence upon this Earth, destroying every beautiful thing - the soil, the air, the water, the animals. What is there left to contemplate except "HOW COULD WE!!!!!"

42. hehe...joke
the meaning of life is LIVING & LOVING....or dying & hating, if you want to.
But the defintion/meaning of life is existence....but even objects exist right? but they dont have life. So me being alive means I can move, breathe. Not only that I exist, I can think, sing, laugh, react to stimulus, digest & excrete, feel, touch....and do something wonderful with my life, my existence.
Ask yourself "what is the meaning of MY life?" im sure you have some ideas,

Whatever meaning you give it. Essentially, there is none, but you only get one life to live, so you might as well make the most of it.

The meaning of life is not being dead. Having all the characteristics that won't be associated to or defined as dead.
