well, basically, love is a chemical reaction. so, there's actually changes going on in your brain and your body. love releases the feel good chemicals (endorphins) in your brain. that's that kind of floaty, happy, giddy, goosebumps feeling you get when you are truly in love. If you want to know more, check out howstuffworks.com. search love. it pretty much covers everything.

interesting question. the why is found in the chemical segregation out of the result of what we call "fall in love". The body functions better and produces some chemicals in harmony with nature and ourselves -- I am not sure if medical scientist studied the phenomenon at length but there is no denial that a chemical reaction occurs when we are "in love". Out of love is a different matter -- and do not ask yet about that phase. Hope it does help.

Read "The molecules of emotion", by Cadice Pert. Basically, the brain fires its neurons in a particular sequence, which influences the hypo-thalamus, which produces peptides, which go through the body via the blood stream and enters particular body cells.

We as humans, have nerve receptacles which transmit signals from the brain to all parts of the body. As humans we have the ability to act upon these emotions unlike almost all species of animals. Possibly dolphins can relate. However we seem to be more in touch with these receptacles. I am not just talking about sexual parts, cause it can affect many other organs, like your stomach, leg muscles etc. We are special and God made us special.

I only remember feeling sort of ill when it happened to me in my youth. Unrequited love = feeling ill.
