Information that is being spread to promote some cause.
For example: MADD { Mothers Against Drunk Driving}
They spread information about alcohol abuse, and how it affects ones ability to drive safely. They also provide the rate of accidents per year, relating to drunk driving. They give protective advice, to familys about safety on the road. They fight for family rights concerning drunk drivers. To me this is a good cause.
But the companies who support the selling of alcohol, they spread propaganda about alcohol. Trying to make it look great, when it is a dangerous thing. Especialy when it is not drank in moderation.

Any information that is deliberately distributed can be called "propaganda."
But the word is usually used to describe information with which the speaker or writer disagrees.

propaganda is misleading information to lead someone to reach a certain conclusion...
In Germany in the 1930's Adolf Hitler ran radio shows giving information in "the news" stating that Jewish people wanted to take over and cheat people out of there money....He did this to turn Germans against the Jewish people...That is Propaganda

It's when someone (generally the government) only tells you part of the story, or even complete lies because they want you to make decisions based on HALF the information, or on false information. If I tell you cigarettes are calming, and make you look sophisticated so you'll buy them...but I purposely don't tell you they cause cancer and premature births etc... I'm using propaganda to influence your decision to smoke.
