i think people criticize rap music because they don't understand it and are afraid of what they don't know. most people have preconcieved notions of what its all about. they don't know what they're missing

I critisize it because i don't like it. It's become so mainstream now thatrap and hip hop music is becoming the popular music of our day, and personally any critisism i have is towards the people who make it popular. It used to be that rap was an alternative form of music, now it is the mainstream. SO instead of kids growing up and listening to some pop teeny bopper music they are listening to rap. And the sort of lyrics being exposed in popular music these days are just downright pathetic. I don't mind people who incorporate bitches and hoes and homies into a song with some lyrical substance, but mainstream music these days has no substance. So, i have no doubt there are legitimate rap artists out there who do the profession proud, but it used to take a lot more than bitches and yo mumma to rite a decent song.

I think it gets a bad rap because it seems like it takes little talent ( theres no singing) to produce and create....I mean a lot of the tracks in the backround are covers from the 70's or eighties for one...and the other tracks are produced usually with computer audio effects and looping programs (no real band).

I think the main reason I don't like more rap is because of all the nagative lyrics or the derogitory lyrics...its all too easy to swear and call ppl names....and it just seems all too easy, uninspired and shallow...There are some good rap songs out there...Its juts there are so many mediocore and uninspired ones that it makes it hard to find good rap and gives rap a bad name in general.

One word: RACISM

My man, I am as white as white gets. I grew up on a farm in Missouri. After college, I got my own place on a farm in Missouri. I'm a blonde haired, blue eyed country boy from the sticks. Furthermore, for the most part, I think the "race card" is played way too often in situations where it doesn't fit. However, this is not one of them.

You said it best, my man, no one is forcing anyone to listen to it. If you don't like it, just leave it alone. On the flip side, people do the same thing to country music. It's ignorant! It's sad.

I love Merle Haggard's music as much as I love 2pac's. Sure, at first glance, their backgrounds seem miles a part, but they have much more in common than in contrast. If you don't believe me, research their bio's and read their lyrics. Listen to Merle's "Mamma Tried." Then, listen to 2pacs "Dear Mamma." This is only 1 example!

Stay Up Playa!

I think that the people who listen to it think that it has to much cussing in it. I also think that the main people who criticize don't listen to it, but that someone tells them about it so that is why there is so much critsim about rap music. It might also be because of some of the topics discussed in some of the songs or the way that the people are dressed when they see the people performing it on the television.

1. they are jealous that people can make mass money just by 'spitting rhymes.' but then why dont u try it and find out just how easy it is?

2. dont even say that its because of the song content. so what they throw in a little unnecessary profanity here and there. all music nowadays have no meaning. for example, take panic at the disco. their song 'i (something) sins not tragedies' is utterly meaningless(and stupid too). yet they love that and hate rap. hypocrites at the extreme. Rappers rap what they know, and unfortunately(thanks to racism and segregational policies that made auto-segregation possible i.e unintentional segregation) they lived in neighborhoods where they had to bend the law to breaking point to survive. u cant tell me that the rock singers(or screamers) only know about meaninglessness. come on now. why the hypocrisy?

3. because most people who rap are black, racists often attack rap. the one day my history teacher said black people always debase themselves on tv, rapping about killing their moms and stuff. the only rapper ever to rap about killing his mom is eminem. is he black? it is arguable. it is arguable that eminem raps the way he does to affect the black community that raps. but why?

Rap music sucks. It was only introduced for the folks who could not sing or really play instruments. The lyrics are terrible and really just dumb. Rap is definately for the weak minded and anyone who has never had any real morals. IT IS NOT MUSIC, IT IS JUST PLAIN CRAP. One day in the future when future generations rate the music of the past I would be ready to bet they will find Rap to be the most stupid sound ever produced even surpassing "DISCO". If rap was so great, why will there never be a Rap winner on American Idol. Your right, no one is forcing me to listen to it because I don't. I would rather be deaf if that was all there was.

I think the just criticize it because they listen to a few bad songs where all they do is swear (which still is no problem) then they're like every rap song suxs. Well do u know what people YOU SUCK if you don't like rap.

Yeah...in case you pay attention to My Chemical Romance, you're "emo". in case you pay attention to T-soreness and Daddy Yankee, gangster. Slipknot, metalhead or goth. Rihanna or Fergie, preps...it is so pathetic. i could no longer use a music sort to label somebody, with the aid of fact it does not decribe each and every thing approximately them. I completely agree, labels are overvalued.

There is no such thing as rap "music'. The stuff they call music is garbage. Anyone creating this junk is no musician by any stretch of the imagination. Trust me when I say that I don't ever intentionally listen to it. It's worse than the disco craze of the seventies and I hope it goes away too.

That's why. K.
