Hi,
I work in an animal shelter and just came home from a seminar. I know now that the dogs we thought were perhaps lab/basset mixes could easily be dwarf labs.So we have That..I have seen dogs who I would easily label Autistic.Lots of neurotic stuff going on I think the Moms push away the pups that arent "well" Survival of the fittest! But I have sen dogs born with severe neurological problems...They just spin after weaning..They will never respond to even there own name..My Vet said"That one must have stayed in the sack to long" and Euthanasia is generly recommended.I'm sure they can be born with missing or messed up Chromozones as well, Gosh people are breeding everything that moves!!!!

I don't know about autism but I'd swear up and down that my great dane/lab mix has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)!
But yes, I'd think you might see brain abnormalities in animals but that it would be less noticable than in humans for the simple fact that the outward signs are less obvious (for instance animals aren't capable of speech - save for some birds - and that's one way you would know that a person is mentally handicapped).

This is anecdotal evidence only but I've known cats that give every sign of being mentally deficient. I had one that couldn;t interact with people but loved our camera, couldn't get from one room to the next without bumping into a wall. Wasn't deaf or blind but didn't respond to the usual food signals. It was clearly in the low intelligence range for cats.

It probably is. I've heard that dalmatians have a tendency toward deafness. There is a lot if incestuous breeding. It would make sense to me.

Sure. They have brains and can have brain damage. I'm not sure about chromosome disorders (downs syndrome and the like).

Potentially, but how could you tell if a wolf had ADD or a tiger had epilepsy?
