I love all animals and even had mice as pets (not wild ones). But when we got a somewhat bad mice problem last winter (the elderly cats went on strike and refused to catch anymore mice) I had to start setting traps.
If you choose to kill them buy traps that kill them NOT glue traps. Glue traps are HORRIBLE as people use them and throw the trap (with the mouse stuck to it) in the garbage. Basically the mouse has to suffer until it dies of hunger or thirst.
I don't know if those electronic devices that give off high frequency waves work or not. It wasn't an option for me as I had pet rats at the same time I had the mice problem so I couldn't use them regardless.
As I said before I love all animals too although I do agree that sometimes we have to intervene if an animal population gets out of control because of the lack of natural predators (such as wild deer).
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

You can buy little traps where there is a way to get in, but it is impossible to get out from the inside. If you bait this with a Hershey's Kiss on a little glob of peanut butter, they will be drawn to it. NOT CHEESE. A recent study shows that mice actually prefer fruit to cheese, let alone PB and chocolate. The idea of mice liking cheese it totally fabricated. Sure, they'll eat it, but it won't draw them like some kisses!
You can also buy a small device that you plug into an outlet. It lets out a high pitched noise that cannot be heard by humans, but drives rodents away. There are brands that also do not affect cats and dogs, but if you have a pet rodent you do not want to use this.
Hope this helps, good luck with your unwanted pets!

Mouse Cube is $1.50 and available at places like Walmart
Victor Tin Cat is about $10-$15 but can catch several mice at once. Available at some hardware stores.

If it's really mice and not rats, Wal-mart has a plastic rectangular trap that has a door that only goes one way. When they go in to get the bait, it closes and traps them. You have to pick it up and dump the little meecies into the woods or other, hum , safe place.
I had a rat problem and this never, never worked. I could hear them laugh at me! The ole mouse trap is the best thing for catching the rats, although the poison sure does work but if they die behind a wall, they will rot and stink your whole house up.

You can try putting peanut butter in a tall container or bucket that they can't jump out of or even by putting peanut butter in a minnow trap if you have one. You can also buy "live trap" mouse trap at a hardware store, get a metal one because they'll just chew through a plastic "live trap". Good luck with the mice.

In the store where they keep the poisons. They also have live animal traps for mice. Trap them and release them somewhere else.
Place the trap along their path when they run in the door will close.

I don't know what to do if you don't want to kill them!!!!
I love animals too and I have two cats and they've killed mice but unless they are a real problem leave them alone. You should get an exterminator or poison but DON'T EAT IT!!!!! LOL..
