On CSPAN I just witnessed a heated debate between 2 republicans on whether or not the US should continue it's humanitarian support of the people of North Korea.

Evidently we've had a food program for them that has been going on at least since the Clinton administration but continued on by GW Bush....

The concern is that the North Korean Government will continue to use THEIR money to build nuclear weapons if they don't have to feed their own people....

The other point of view is that we are no better than the Korean Government if we allow their people to starve or go without food.

One glaring problem is that somehow, we are able to feed North Koreans but we are not able to communicate to them about how awful their totalitarian government is.

What do you think?

Feeding the people is an easy way to try and coerce the locals into an uprising...Kim Jong IL is killing is own people and they have a belief that he is doing this for the good of the country...Sending the starving peasants some Hamburger Helper is a nonthreatening way (to the North Korean govt) to help them open their eyes and see their plight and eventual demise

What about all the hungry people here at home, I think we need to feed our own before we start handing out anything elsewhere

Charity begins at home. I feel badly for any people suffering but I get sick and tired of feeding, housing and clothing these foreign nations only to see them rise up and turn against us.
