IF ON THE WOOD. If it has a laquer based finish, use mineral spirits. If it only has wood stain on the wood WITHOUT a finish coat of laquer or polyeurothane or other finishing product the only thing I recommend is sanding and restaining with a matching stain. If it looks shiny then it probably had a finish on it and you could lightly sand it but be careful not to sand through. then just polish with a wood polish till shiny again.

This is a very tough problem but not unfixable - if you are not a professional wood refinisher (or even an amateur) you don't want to mess with stripping or sanding. WD-40 (or any oil based solvent) will break down the finish over time causing it to crack and discolor. You need at soap or gel based solvent. There is a reasonably priced product called 'Goo Gone' that is marketed to remove stickers and labels. Use a small amount of the Goo Gone applied directly to the permanent marker - let the product sit for three minutes. Using a soft cloth - buff the product as if you were waxing a car for about a minute or until you notice Goo Gone starting to evaporate and the marker stains starting to lighten. Next take a piece of Ivory soap and trace along the lightened marks. Next take a piece of waxed paper and press it on top of the soap lines. With the waxed paper firmly in place trace the soap lines again with Ivory Soap (the waxed paper between). Slowly lift the waxed paper off. Don't panic if there is still a light mark. Simply apply a little more Goo Gone and buff again then repeat the waxed paper treatment. The stain should wipe away. However you may still be left with a stain. If all else fails call the marker manufacturer - ocassionaly they have permanent solvent removers available.
Good Luck and try not to get frustrated!

Try the Mr. clean Magic eraser again but this time spray it with Awesome( from the dollar tree) or goo gone then use the eraser! It really works! It took Sharpie perm. marker off my table and it works on model paint too!

I think that wasn't a great idea, if by the front you mean the part that can be seen from outside. Now all the neighborhood pervs will know which room your daughter is in. You could paint or put tape over it or try removing it with nail polish remover or paint thinner. Yes, I'd be angry if this was the case.

Try Murphy's Soap, they use that on wood. and then polish it, After that get rid of all the permanent markers in the house , and replace them with washable markers, especially when there are little ones around.

The only thing that I know of is rubbing alcohol but it might take the varnish off the wood. Still it's better to have to revarnish that sand off the marker.

Yikes, WD 40 might discolor the wood. Try it underneath first. Most likely the ink is part of the wood now.

Take a deep breath...and try not to kill her...she is only a child. Something to laugh about when she gets older.
Try using some lighter fluid.
