I have been breastfeeding exclusively for 10 months, just beginning to slow down this past month. I haven't had a period since before I got pregnant, some 19 months ago. So we've been using the good ole high schoolers "pull out" method. Some say you can't get pregnant while nursing, some say you can. Some say you can't get pregnant from pre-ejaculate, some say you can. What do you think my odds of getting pregnant are, because I am completely torn!

you can definately get pregnant while nursing.

if you're going with the pull-out 'method' i think it's regarded as about 68-73% effective

as for pre-ejaculate, it contains sperm so it is possible to get pregnant from it, although not as likely.

well, if you're nursing exclusively and have not had a period, you may not be ovulating yet. unfortunately, you won't know for sure till the pregnancy test is positive.

actually, you could already be pregnant.

yes, you can get pregnant from pre-ejaculate. with all the better options out there, why subject you and your family to this uncertainity?

Sorry-- what you;re describing is not a birth control method. I know this from personal experience. If you really don;t want to get pregnant, use a barrier method. On the other hand, I understand that it;s alot easier to have your kids close together.

You may want to take a pregnancy test to be sure you don;t already have another one on the way.

Best wishes...

By you breastfeeding does have a hormonal affect on your body however, ypur method is not the main key it is your hormonal level (e.g. when are you ovulating or/an are you ovulating) and YES you can become pregnant from pre-ejaculation

Word of caution!!! I have three children!! And One was created with the old pull out method while nursing!!! So from one mom to another get condoms, shots(these last for 3 months!), pills, or get him fixed ( if your done making babies!) cause that is the safest way!! My husband can't use condoms, and I've tried the pill to no success! And I believe that we woman work hard enough to give our husbands the family that they help create and they should get sniped not us!! So figure out what you and your hubby want to use as protection and stick with it!! Good Luck!!

With this method, I'd start stocking up on diapers again if I were you.
