Gas, and will heat water faster

You need to check out both rates from your local utility companies and do some comparison. HOWEVER, remember that for a gas water heater to provide HOT water the pilot light is on 24/7 and 365 days a year, even when you are on vacation. Gas water heaters have efficiency ratings listed on the labels, i.e 60%, 65% etc.
ELECTRIC water heaters are 100% efficient, but you must check your electrical rates. It depends on where you live and the rates charged.
An option would be to purchase a 'tankless water heater' It only heats water when needed, no pilot light. Initial costs are higher but great savings in the long run.
good luck.

Hands down, the answer is gas.

Your water heater is on 24/7 and the cost of natural gas is much lower than the cost of electricity. If you want to use electricity instead of gas, you may want to look into a tankless water heater.

That will depend on the rates for gas and electric in your area and the ratings for the tanks you are looking at. Most places it is cheaper to run gas, so if the efficiency of the tanks are the same and they are the same size, then gas would be cheaper.

i believe that gas would be cheaper to use because the pilot lights comes on only when it need to heat up the water. with electric it stay running all the time. so it continues to run and cost more money. but you can call the utilities and get a wattage usage and com pair how much they will cost before you decide.
