It converts the information in DNA in a gene into messenger RNA to go outside the nucleus for translation into a polypeptide of amino acids. DNA contains information in the form of three-base codons. In DNA, the possible bases are adenine, thymine, cytodine, and guanine. In RNA, the bases are the same, except uracil is substituted for thymine.
