I am a gypsie and I respect my people very much but I also have a career and mix with people who are not gypsies, but the sad thing is I could never tell anyone at work because if any thing ever went missing or something went wrong the gypsie girl would get the blame.
There are people that give us this bad reputation though acting as if society owes them something and other people dont matter, I know this for a fact as I have friends and family who think in this shallow way but goirgios ( non gypsies) act the same towards us I wonder how peoples attitudes would change towards me if they knew I was a gypsie?
It takes all sorts .......

I am one and it's great. I lived on the road in a horse drawn wagon when I was a kid, and it's a lifestyle you can't beat, not ever.
As for society's opinion of us, well we get more than our fair share of racism from people who don't understand that being Romany is something you're BORN to, not something you can choose to be like a new age traveller. We are proud to be who we are, with our own language and culture. Either that or people judge us by those twee 1950's ideas that we all wear long dresses and dance round the fire. Reality is a long way from that, but we do have a certain understanding of the world you gorgios can never have.

What conjures up in my mind when I think of a Gypsy . Very strikingly good-looking people with long hair, some of swarthy complexion,others are blonde, Gypsies possibly originating from Egypt . I think of caravans, an exciting travelling life, knowledge of magic and other secrets. Magical, enthralling music; a love for life and the out-doors. I think of the famous painting: The Sleeping Gypsy.
