I am on the pill, and my fiance and I have an active sex life.. lately I have had tender breast, cramps, and back pain for the past 1-2 weeks. I'm due to get my period in a week, could these be signs of pregnancy or abnormally early period pains?

Hello. You can get pregnant while on the pill. The only way to know is to take a test; however, the tests in the store are expensive and not always accurate early on.

To find out for sure, go to the following website and click on Find a Center. They are part of the CareNet organization, a non-profit that will offer you free pregnancy tests and a free ultrasound if you want one. You can get your answers and not have to wait. There is also no cost to you. They are very caring, helpful people and have helped friends of mine.

Their phone number is 1-800-395-HELP

The effectiveness of the pill is 98% which means that 2 out of every 100 women per year will get pregnant using an oral contraceptive. In order for the pill to be effective it must be taken at the same time every day. For some brands of birth control pills, missing your pill by as little as 2-4 hours can make the pill ineffective as a form of birth control.

My first child was conceived while on the pill. Yes, it could be signs of pregnancy. Even if your period comes but is a little light, take the test because you may very well be.

Of course, take the test to be sure, but if you're not, it could also be mild dehydration. This can cause fluid retention, back aches, cramps, etc. also. Many of us don't eat the way we should or drink enough water. The body especially needs fluids before you get your period. If you don't get enough, the body will retain fluids for you. That's one of the causes of breast tenderness.
