Ottawa has a large immigrant population. Aside from English and French, the 2 languages most spoken are Vietnamese and Arabic. There are mosques, synagogues, Hindu and Buddhist temples, Wiccan covens and many denominations of Christian churches for religious folks. The city is full of language schools to teach English and French as a second language. The Ontario government even offers special training programs for new Canadians who would like to upgrade their skills. Ottawa has the feel of a small town, but with big city amenities. It has a Chinatown and a Little Italy as well as Little Québec(Vanier). It`'s close to Toronto and Montreal. New York city is a day away by car.
The people here are friendly to immigrants; they are already used to 2 cultures (English and French) and most folks enjoy adding more flavours to the mix. Job opportunities are good. Aside from the public service, there is a large High Tech industry, as well as a health sciences industry. Tourism is also a big industry in Ottawa. There are also retail, manufacturing and agricultural jobs here. It's also a gorgeous city, very green and wild. It`s not uncommon to see a moose or deer roaming through the parkland areas.
My best friend came here from Vietnam 2 years ago and he just loves it.

If you are friendly..you will find most of us friendly.. We were all immigrants at some point. Unlike the USA we are not a melting pot, we are a tossed salad. We were and are created with diversity, and are generally tolerant towards new ideas. Vancouver probably seems friendlier because the weather is better. Try Bobcaygeon for a real glimpse of this great country.

Ottawa is like Washington, the capital of Canada and very much dominated by politics and political hacks. It is not really an immigrant town where people choose to live as it is mostly government workers etc. Now as far as Vancouver is concerned, it is an immigrant city fostered by many chinese and japanese people who have emigrated from those countries. Besides, it is more beautilful than Ottawa in all aspects, scenery, mountains, recreational activities abound etc. Also, its climate is more moderate in the winter.
