Yes! Fertilizers are salts and salts kill and burn roots. Have your soil tested for nutrient content and fertilize to optimal conditions. your grass will be MUCH happier.

Yes! Think about dog urine. The nitorgen burns the heck out of your grass. There is nitrogen in fertilizer!
