I have just heard the news - 3M Vietnamese were killed in the Vietnam war by the American troops - and I was just shocked by that, hence the question.
3 millions lives, 3M hopes for better life, 3M innocent people - Why? To save American people, to save the world....????

The war fought was fought on the Vietnam territory, though, not on American soil, right?

That were Vietnamese civilians!!! that died in the war, because the war was fought in Vietnam, not in the USA. See the difference?

You should not speak of things you know not of.

Vietnam was divided into two countries before and during the war. North Vietnam was the aggressor in the Vietnam war. The NVA, North Vietnamese Army, and the VCs, the Viet Cong, killed more innocent people than what is stated in your specious comment.

Plus, your figure includes the 600,000 NVA killed in legitimate combat and the estimated VC casualties also legitimate combat kills.

Get your facts straight before you make such comments.

Furthermore, your statement insults the brave men that were in the US Armed Forces during the war!

My husband is a veteran, he fought in Vietnam, he has never been the same. I will say wars are OK with me if it is invading our territory, but not OK to just save the world. Look at it now, many of the countries that were for us, united to us, in this war now, have changed their mind. Why is it that the U.S.A. is always protecting some other country and not making sure we will have others on our side to protect us. Right now they are taking and going to High Schools so that the 18 and 17 years old graduating can join the forces, they have killed some many men and women that they need more now. Maybe I notice this because I am in from of Mac Dill Air Force Base. But it is a shame that when it comes to us, we probably will not have enough men and women to defend this country. Vietnam and this war not were not necessary.
Another thing, look at all those men that fought in Vietnam they have forgotten about them. NO help for them, I mean the bums you see on the streets, they are no bums, they had a family and everything like normal people have, but now they have gone crazy, and no one is there to help them. I know, I do volunteer work for veterans, I hear their stories, I do feel for them. So next time you see a bum, maybe you should salute him.
I am sorry I went of course with this, but I am very passionate, when it comes to wars and the people that fight them.

. Did anyone in the US ever call North Vietnam a terrorist country? The US was engaged in a war to stop the spread of Soviet Cummunism from North Viet Nam into South Viet Nam. When you are at war, people on the other side get killed. Nothing to do with terrorism. When, due to world opinion and the shortage of popular support at home, the U.S. pulled out of South Viet Nam, there was a murderous purge in the South which, to me, only proves that trying to keep the North out had been the right thing to do.
. Thia morning, I was talking with a Viet Namese man who, as a young man, fought the communists. After the war, he and his family escaped Viet Nam by sea. This man was a mechanical engineer in Viet Nam. Now, he is working as a draftsman. There are so many stories from people who have given up there livelyhoods and their social status, and risked (and in some cases lost) their lives to escape from the Viet Nam which now exists, it is clear that there is much wrong with the way that country is now run. This man, a respected professional in Viet Nam, and now works for a meager wage, told me today that he left hell and he is now in heaven. He told me that the proudest day of his life was when he received his US citizenship, and he cried. He and I agreed that there are some things in the US that need to be fixed, but that there are fewer things that need fixing here than in any other country on earth. He loves this country.

One has to look at Vietnam in its time frame - the cold war. We did many things looking back on we aren't too proud of. If one looks at what the US has done in the context of what was going on at the time, the US looks rather good. Not perfect by any means, but if good and bad are evenally weighted the US would be much more than 50% on the positive side.

Those that could careless what people think tend to be loved, while those that care are looked down on. Maybe that is why the US is looked down on.

It was to contain communism. As far as the government was concerned, they were terrorists. The "vietcong" were fought for years with no positive outcome. The same is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our government should have learned from the mistake in Vietnam. But no, they underestimated everything!

You obviously haven't a lot of knowledge about what you would like to speak. Lots of Vietnamese went to other countries than the US. I have acquaintances from the south who want to go to the US, for a variety of reasons. I have friends from the north that want to go to the US for a variety of reasons. Their reasons are obviously a lot better thought out than the questions that some people post who ask questions here.

So the military industrial complex can make it's billions. Kennedy wanted to get out, so he received a couple shots from a rifle.

Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld all have investments into company's that somehow managed too get no-bid contracts for Iraq. You see their is too much money to be made from war, as like Vietnam (until Nixon CUT and RAN from Nam).

That was back when we were saving the world from the Commies. Vietnam was full of heathen Commies. Funny, today if you take out commies and insert terrorists you get the same thing. Same War?

Even though I support trade, and full diplomatic recognition of Vietnam.....there's a lot of unanswered questions.

Mia's need to be accounted for.....BEFORE we have full ties to Vietnam. The Vietnam conflict was a somber tale in our history. The brave Americans that died there need to be brought home.

Vietnam was an illegal war fought by two countries trying to force their political beliefs on another, terrorism had nothing to do with it.
