Present participles always end in -ing. However, pas participles will never end in -ing. Past participles normally end in -ed; however, there are many irregular verbs that do not follow this rule.

no past participles end in -ed most of the time unless they are irregular
here are some examples:
talk: talking (present) and talked (past participle regular)
bake: baking (present) and baked (past participle regular)
do: doing (present) and done (past participle irregular)
say: saying(present) and said (past participle irregular)
eat: eating (present) and eaten (past participle irregular)

yes they do, just that the helping verbs change for present and past--don't confuse them :)
