Just what does making a pledge of allegience mandatory say about our country?

That always bothered me in school.

If you're talking about the everyday pledge, then yes, it is mandatory.
However, you do NOT have to say it. There are certain parts that do not apply to the real-world
America, such as "One nation under God". Obviously, as Americans, we are not all Christians. Neither are those who immigrated to this country. It may actually be offensive to those who share an alternate religion. (Is this your case?)

Anyway, that's the way it is at our high school.
You should check with your system administrator or other school official if you have any other questions. Religion is a VERY touchy subject in public schools.

No. Students are required to be quiet during the pledge for the respect of those who do partake in it, but they are entirely within their religious and national rights to sit during it and not say it.

At least, that's how it is in the schools in this area, although it may (illegally) be forced upon students elsewhere.

In my state they made it illegal to say the pledge of allegience. When they did say it long long time ago, it was mandatory unless you were in a wheelchair or if it was against your religious beliefs but then those people were asked to step out of the room.

Standing shows respect for your country and the flag (which, IMHO, we should all have). So many folk have given EVERYTHING for it! There is no law saying that you have to recite the pledge!

Stand up - mouth the words if you feel so inclined!

THe USA is not perfect but it IS the greatest country on Earth! You owe it to the rest of us to ... at the very least ... Stand (for something)!

Don't know if it is these days (was when I was in school) but it should be.

During a person's high school years, how could they have learned enough to even think of showing disrespect for their country?

If it isn't is should be. If somebody doesn't care enough for this country to stand during the pledge they should get out.

Probably not...

I went to a school, and now teach in one where we don't have to make it a rule...We have enough respect for country and flag to do it automatically.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY....IF YOU DON'T APPRECIATE IT...GET OUT!!!
