I see people all the time at elevators and especially at traffic lights pushing the buttons for either the elevator to come to their floor or the dont walk signal to change to walk many many times over and over again. Does it matter whether u press that button once or keep pressing it many times. Does it make the elvetor come fasfter or the light signal change faster if i keep pushing it many times.
thanks

In almost every elevator in the world the answer is no. Once it saw the first push it made its decision about your floor. Pushing it again will not make that decision any stronger or your trip any quicker.

The only exception to that ironclad rule are these new "demand" elevators that they just started selling. In those the control system counts up how many people want a certain floor. It then sends an elevator to pick them up and it then only stops at that selected floor. Other elevators will do the same for other popular floors based on how many pushes were made. That will change the rule about quantity not counting (at least until they realize that some individuals are pushing the button a bunch of times to get their own private ride).

Pushing a cross to walk button changes the program of the traffic light to give more "green time" to the pedestrian so they can cross with out the light changing to red too fast. Most do not change the light faster if there is a vehicle already on top of the inductive loop buried in the road waiting for the light. If there is no car waiting, pushing the button will alert the signal that it has to change. And yes once it is pushed it doesn't matter how many times it is pushed. It does make people feel good.
I believe the elevator will not come to your floor any faster.

No,Traffic signal and elevator buttons are indicator relays. The button needs only to be pushed once and a signal is sent to either the traffic timer or elevator control mechanism.Traffic signals are on a timer, which is based on the time of day and volume of auto and pedestrian traffic. An elevator button merely tells the elevator what floor to go to and stop on.Both of these are timed.Pressing buttons rapidly is an indication of impatience and nothing more.It produces no quicker results

Certain traffic lights in areas where there is little traffic and a long way to the next-nearest crossing may have a bypass that allows multiple 'hits' to change the light.... elevators....none I've ever met!

No but it will make you feel good to think it does. They are all set on timers. If you had an elevator emergency key then all that changes or a key to the control box at an intersection the same applies ,otherwise NO.
