I'm in film school but I have no clue how people go about getting acting agents. I want to act and I've heard of open casting calls, but how do you get an agent in the first place?

In NYC, we send photo-postcards to agents when we are in a production. Many NYC agents are interested in actors that have a strong theatre background. Make sure you have an up-to-date headshot and very strong acting resume. If the agent is interested in your resume you will get a call to come in for an interview/audition. Only contact agents listed in Ross Reports, or, that are SAG franchised.

The procedure is not the same in every city. (If you are not in NYC find out the procedure for inviting agents to your showcases and productions.)
