My husband and I were going to renovate our garage to a room. we filled out the permit paperwork and we did not pay the fees but we never did the room because it was too expensive. Now the building inspector is coming out bothering us to see it. I made an appt w/ the inspector for tomorrow but we do have a half wall up making the garage 2 seperate rooms. One is a garage and one is a pantry. The partitian wall is made out of sheetrock. There is a door. Does anyone if that will violate any laws?

Nothing they will check for awhile to make sure the work wasn't done. so nothing, if their wok that's been done and the premit wasn't filed they can make you tear it all down, if it doesn't meet the code standards, this makes it an illegal stucture.

You have to return the unused permit. Since you don't need to use it, you need to give it back. Basically you are using your permit to turn a garage into a room (worst investment ever), and you aren't doing that now. You have to go back and go through the process again.

IF YOU PUT THE WALL UP AFTER YOU GOT THE PERMIT THAN YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PERMIT AND PROBABLY GET A FINE.
