When I read it, I got the feeling that Nick actually did like Gatsby. He became friends with him quickly, and even though Nick seemed to despise untruthfulness and facades, he was still charmed by Gatsby when he found out that he was not entirely truthful about his own past. Then, in the end of the novel, you can tell that he sympathized with Gatsby and was disgusted with Daisy and her husband.

Some readers believe that Nick was actually gay and had a crush on Gatsby. I'm sure it could be looked at that way, but I'm still not sure if that was Fitzgerald's intention or not.

I am pretty sure that he likes him. Nick tries to be an impartial narrator, but you can tell by the end that Nick feels sorry for Gatsby because Gatsby died because of Daisy and Tom.

I think he is quite impressed by him. He is a very impressive figure, at first.
It is only later that he feels sorry for him.
