I am making a documentry (short film) about the past 2 years and current year until July 2007,of a part of my life(I dont wish to disclose what it is though)
Any suggestions how to keep it meaty and how I should go about filming myself in public and things AND do I need peoples written permission before I film them or should it be fine just to have verbal permission.

Most documentaries are done without permission of the people shown. We do make documentaries and we never faced any problem.
You should prepare what about you want to prove and it would be useful to show parallel incidents in the antiquity/ past, or on parallel events.
Since the documentary is about you, someone should help you and showing yourself, others will not be disturbed or annoyed, you are doing your life! I would not even ask them verbally, if they don;t like to be there they can move for a moment!
