We will be getting new checks soon with both our names, but I get tired of asking him to write checks for me.

If both of you are authorized users it doesn't matter if you sign your own name.

Since you are listed as an authorized signer you can walk into the bank and cash a check by signing your name.

The problem is if you are writing a check (at a store, for example) and your name is not printed on the checks. They might be reluctant to accept a check from you if your name is not on the check. But if the store is reluctant to take such a check (for fear of not getting their money) they certainly would not let you sign someone else's name, particularly someone of the opposite sex. You can never legally sign someone else's name unless you have power of attorney but even then you sign in such a way that indicates you are signing on the other person's behalf. You don't simply sign their name.

Most banks I've worked with get you your checks within a week of when they're ordered.

No because it is still considering forgery. Also, if his bank has his signature on file, it will really cause suspicious if they notice the difference in signatures. Also when you present a check, the name on the check and your i.d. have to match. It's for you and hubby's safety. Think about it, anyone could find a checkbook and say the same thing and clean out your bank account. It's only a little longer for you to get your own checks.

No. That is illegal. What you can do is have him make a few checks out to you as payee. No amount needs to be entered, but your name will have to be placed on the front of the check where it says payable to. That will require you to sign the back of the check.

I know you can take the check to the bank and cash it. However, using it at another place may or may not be allowed.
