Communications is primarily used to enter into the the mass communications and marketing industries.

The "generic" jobs using this are radio, television and public relations.

However, this is not to say that this is your only avenue. There are literally billions of jobs out there and somebody does each and every one of them. It may surprise you, but not everyone "does" their major for a living - especially for liberal arts majors like communications. But the key is to do what you enjoy, not be blindsided by ignorance and take pride in building your own life.

A good way to know what is out there is to get informational interview. Ask people what they do, what their typical work day is like, what they like and dislike about their jobs and how they got the job. I went through dozens of informational interviews before I got my first job so that I went in with my eyes wide open. As opposed to job interviews, people are usually flattered and very open to talking to college students when asked for an informational interview. Just ask for 30 minutes and it will return volumes in experience.

Communications is a great degree to have, especially if you are a good writer--including technical writing. Many, many professions need effective communicators. How are you at presentations?
