What a terrible thing to discover, an awful situation and a very desparate situation for you friend.
You simply must talk to this person- tell them you love them and that it upsets you to see them unhappy but do it in such a way that they aren't made to feel bad.
Don't mention the cutting unless they do and if they do- confront the issue head on. Encourage professional help and do not judge them, criticise them in any way or make them feel guilty as I said before.
She is in a stage of trying it. Seeing if she can stand the pain enough to do it for real.
This is a critical time, there is something in his/her life that is telling them that it simply isn't worth living anymore and that death is acutally better than life.
I don't know the situation but I'm tipping that you aren't the cause and you are not responsible for them trying to hurt themselves.
You are however a very caring and concerned friend and I hope everything works out well for both of you.
(Bare in mind that the above is my own thoughts and not in anyway professional advice.)

I have the same problem except my friend is a guy. What I did was I talked to my school counselor and they called his counselor and they talked to him and helped him get through it and I supported him through the whole thing. You need to ask her why she cuts herself and try and tell her that if she cuts herself too much she can die and obviously she can't come back. Just be there for her and let her know you really care about her and that you don't want anything bad to happen to her.

first... dont judge her, she needs you now and it will make her feel betrayed if you judge it. Talk to her and ask her why. Encourage her to get help and get her information about how she can deal with it.
