the word oriental usually is applied to an non living object, the word Asian applies to the people. it is offensive to call a person oriental.

Well, "we" never called asian people oriental, their foods, yes oriental, there nationality, no, no, not oriental...it's Asian. You'd get an ear full from lots of people if you call them oriental.
